LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's golf sophomore Therese Koelbaek was named to the 2008-09 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 At-Large Second Team it was announced today by the organization.
Koelbaek recently finished her sophomore year with the Rebels and she is a pre-business major with a 3.94 GPA. A solid student, the native of Holte, Denmark, was named to the 2008 Academic All-Mountain West Conference squad, as well as a NGCA All-Scholar selection as a freshman last season.
Quickly becoming one of the best players in program history, Koelbaek put together a strong sophomore season that saw her post six top-10 finishes while her scoring average of 73.24 was second in the league. During her rookie season she won two events, including sharing medalist honors at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, and she was named the MWC Freshman of the Year and an honorable mention All-American.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs throughout the year. Players who are starters or important reserves on their teams and are at least in their second year at a school and hold at least a 3.30 career GPA are eligible for the academic awards, which are voted on by sports information directors from across the nation.
UNLV's district includes four-year institutions from the states of California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Idaho and Nevada.
