LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team, coming off team and individual victories in its first outing of the year last weekend, will be back in action this Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 19-20, as it will compete at the 41st Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo. The tournament will be held at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course (par 72, 7,301 yards).
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of two rounds (36 holes) on Saturday starting at 8:15 a.m. MT, while the final round (18 holes) will be played Sunday, also starting at 8:15 a.m. MT.
Scheduled to compete for UNLV this weekend will be senior Brett Kanda, junior Jeremiah Wooding, sophomores Derek Ernst and Colby Smith, and freshman Kevin Penner.
The 19-team field includes Air Force, Air Force JV, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Nevada, Reno, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, San Diego, Southern Utah, UAB, UCCS, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Washington State, Weber State and Wyoming.
UNLV finished second at last year's Falcon Invitational, 11 strokes back of team champion Colorado State, which won with a tournament-record score of 27-under 837. Eddie Olson was UNLV's top finisher last year as he finished third at 7-under 209, four strokes back of the individual medalist.
There is no live scoring available for this tournament, which will be UNLV's second of the fall. UNLV opened the season last weekend by winning the team title at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Ernst and Smith both tied for individual medalist honors at UNM's Championship Course.
