Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 18 UNLV women's golf team is under par and in fourth place following two rounds of play at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Saturday, and the Rebels are being paced by Therese Koelbaek.
Koelbaek fired a pair of sub-par rounds and is 4-under with a total of 142 (70-72), carving up the UNM Championship Course as the junior is tied for fourth, three strokes behind the leader heading into Sunday's final round. Her strong play is a major reason the Rebels are under par as a team with a 1-under total of 583 (291-292). Koelbaek rolled in 10 birdies, including four in a nine-hole span during her second round, as the two-time All-American returned to form after a sub-par opening tournament earlier this week at Golfweek's Conference Challenge.
"We played very well," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "It was a great team effort and Therese is in a great position for tomorrow. Kristen (Schelling) also played great in the second round."
Schelling is tied for 13th at 1-under 145 (74-71), and the 2-under she carded on her second 18 holes of the day included a streak of four consecutive birdies on holes 16, 17, 18 and 1, which got her from two over to two under. She would go on to par out her remaining seven holes on the day.
Rebel rookie Ellis Keenan is just outside the top 20, sitting tied for 23 rd with a two-round score of 148 (74-74, +2), Alejandra Guacaneme is tied for 33rd with a 150 (75-75, +6) and Natasha Krishna is tied for 42nd with a 151 (73-78, +5). UNLV also had two individuals playing is the tournament, as sophomore Bethany Glassford is tied for 30th with a 149 (73-76) and junior transfer Mandi Incorvaia is tied for 95th with a 165 (84-81, +19).
No. 12 Pepperdine has the team lead with a 9-under 575, five shots better than No. 21 New Mexico and seven in front of No. 22 TCU. Kendra Little of Oregon has the individual lead with 7-under 139, one shot better than Jodi Ewart of the host Lobos.
The tournament's final round gets underway Sunday morning with a shotgun start slated for 6:30 a.m. (PT), and live scoring will be available courtesy of Golfstat with a link found on the schedule page at UNLVRebels.com.
