LAS VEGAS - UNLV's contingent went a combined 8-3 in singles and doubles during the first day of the 2009 UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
Playing in the top flight, senior Kristina Nedeltcheva, ranked 90th in the country, downed Mallory Weber of Missouri 6-3, 7-6. Newcomer Nives Pavlovic won her first collegiate match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 over Orsi Golovics of Northern Arizona.
In flight two, junior transfer Jana Albers won her match over Kristen Bleakley of Missouri 6-4, 6-3.
In flight three, junior Adrienn Hidvegi advanced with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ginet Pinero of New Mexico State.
Flight four saw Alisa Razina win 6-3, 6-2 and Ella Bourchier take her UNLV debut 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
In doubles, Nedetlcheva and Albers combined for an 8-6 win in the top flight and Nives and Hidvegi prevailed 9-7 in flight three.
Action gets underway at 10 a.m. PT on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
