LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Lady Rebels went a combined 7-5 in singles and doubles competition during the second day of the 2009 UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennix Complex on Saturday. The Rebels went 5-5 in semifinal action, while notching a perfect 2-0 mark in consolation play.
Senior Kristina Nedeltcheva, ranked 90th in the country, defeated New Mexico State's Sophia Marks 6-3, 6-2 to advance to Sunday's finale, while freshman teammate Nives Pavlovic lost to Texas' Vanja Corovic, who came into the weekend ranked #65 nationally, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Junior transfer Jana Albers defeated Texas' Caroline Larsson 7-6, 6-2 to move into Sunday's final match of the second flight.
In the third flight, junior Adrienn Hidvegi knocked off Texas' Sara Lancaster 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in their semifinal affair, while junior Anna Maskaljun won with ease in the consolation round over Northern Arizona's Malia Wahinepio 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Alisa Razina and freshman Ella Bourchier suffered losses in their flight four matches. Razina lost her first set 6-0 before retiring. Bourchier lost 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Rumyana Terzieva defeated Missouri's Andrea Lewis 6-2, 6-1 in the flight five round robin.
In doubles action, Maskaljun and Razina were successful in the flight two consolation round with an 8-6 victory, as were the duo Terzieva and Bourchier in the flight four consolation match with their 8-5 win.
Nedeltcheva and Albers dropped an 8-6 semifinal decision to Texas' top duo. Pavlovic and Hidvegi suffered the same fate with an 8-3 loss in the flight three semifinals.
The Invite continues Sunday with the first matches scheduled for 10:00 am.
