LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Jana Albers knocked off Aeriel Ellis of Texas 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 to win the Flight Two singles title and highlight the final day of the 2009 UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
There were also three-set finals in two other flights between a Lady Rebel and Longhorn but UT took both.
In the top flight, 65th-ranked Vanja Corovic outlasted UNLV's 90th-ranked Kristina Nedeltcheva 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 for the crown. And in Flight Three, Maggie Mello rallied past Adrienn Hidvegi 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. UNLV did add a consolation victory in Flight Three as Anna Maskaljun downed Sophia Ayala of Missouri 6-3, 6-3.
Also, Rumyana Terzieva picked up of a 6-1, 6-1 win to win the round-robin action in the fifth and final flight.
"It was nice to see us competing well against some really strong teams," said UNLV head coach Kevin Cory. "To have four of our girls in finals today and come out with two wins overall is a testament to how hard we've been working and shows how good this team can be this season."
Next up for UNLV, Nedeltcheva and Nives Pavlovic travel to the elite Riviera All-American tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif., starting October 3.
