LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV has three of the final 16 main draw entries in both singles and doubles after the second day of action at the 2010 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Moving into Friday's Round of 16 for singles was 72nd-ranked senior Jana Albers, sophomore Nives Pavlovic and freshman standout Lucia Batta. All three Lady Rebels won their third-round matches in straight sets.
In doubles, Pavlovic and Aleksandra Josifoska enjoyed a first-round bye and then won 8-6 later in the day. Albers and Adrienn Hidvegi won 8-6 and then 8-5 to remain alive while Batta and Anna Maskaljun had a bye before advancing with an 8-2 victory.
Friday's schedule kicks off with doubles play at 9 a.m., followed by singles at 10:30 and then singles quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
This 114-player event is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions from the regionals will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 4-7, at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
