COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV has proven it can win while playing down a man, but two players down was too tough of a task to overcome, as a shorthanded Rebels squad dropped a 2-0 contest at Air Force on Friday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer contest on Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium.

The game was scoreless at halftime, though Air Force held an 11-5 edge on shots in the opening 45 minutes. Just over two minutes into the second half, Jaime Calvo was whistled for a red card, leaving the Rebels with just 10 players on the field. The same thing happened a week ago, when UNLV lost a player to a red card against Air Force in the second half yet still managed to score a shorthanded goal to win 1-0. UNLV hoped to pull off that feat again, and did manage to keep Air Force our of the net for the next 20 minutes.

However, UNLV was called for a foul in the box in the 68th minute, leading to a penalty kick. The Rebels then lost another defender, Drew Gleason, given a red card while arguing the call, leaving UNLV without its top two defenders and playing with just nine players for the last 22 plus minutes.

Kevin Durr would convert the penalty kick for a 1-0 Air Force lead. UNLV managed to stay within a goal for the next 20 minutes, but were unable to find a tying score. The Falcons sealed the game with a score by Brian Klazura off an assist by Kyle Moses in the 90th minute.

Air Force held a 29-8 edge on shots, including 29-8 in the second half. UNLV took five corner kicks to four for Air Force. Simon Cook made six saves in goal for UNLV, while Matt Underwood was credited with four for the Falcons.

The Rebels will stay in the state of Colorado to face Denver on Sunday at 12:30 pm (PT).
