Koelbaek Earns MWC Golfer of the Month

Oct. 28, 2010

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golf senior Therese Koelbaek has earned her second straight Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month honor, the league office announced Thursday.

"It has really been an amazing month and I am very appreciative to be honored by the Mountain West and to have the support from my teammates and coaches," said Koelbaek. "I have been on the go for three weeks straight, in Tulsa then Argentina and finally back home for our tournament. It has been hard, but I am happy that I was able to keep my game up!"

The honor marks the fifth time she has earned the MWC's Golfer of the Month. Koelbaek is just the seventh player in the history of the conference to have earned the honor in back-to-back months and her five honors put her two behind the career leader, Kailin Downs of New Mexico who was a seven-time honoree from 2001-05.

Koelbaek is coming off the busiest stretch of her career during the month of October. She posted her third straight top-3 finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Owasso, Okla., and in the process helped UNLV to its highest finish of the fall at fifth place.

"This is a great way to end our fall season," said first-year head coach Amy Bush. "Therese had an outstanding October. She has been in contention in every tournament this fall and has been the leader of a very strong Rebel team this year."

A day after wrapping up in Oklahoma, Koelbaek traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina as one of three players to comprise the Danish National Team at the 2010 World Amateur Team Championship. It was the second straight W.A.T.C. appearance Koelbaek has made for Denmark and she did not disappoint. The senior two-time All-American tied for 16th in the 154-player field, shooting even par over the four-day event hosted at both the Olivos Golf Club and Buenos Aires Golf Club.

The Holte, Denmark native has helped the Rebels to four straight top-10 finishes as a team and currently carries the lowest scoring average in the MWC at 71.67 through 12 rounds of play. She has carded six rounds under par, including a 67 in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, which is the low round in the MWC this season.

Koelbaek and the Rebels will be on hiatus until late February when they pick up action for the first time in 2011 at the Bruin/Wave Invitational from Feb. 28 - March 2 at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita, Calif.
