LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Alana Cesarz and Danielle Miller have signed national letters of intent to play for the UNLV women's basketball team starting in the fall of 2011-12, head coach Kathy Olivier announced on Tuesday.
Cesarz, a 6-1 forward from Delavan, Wisc., is a two-time Southern Lakes Conference Player of the Year for Delavan-Darien High School, and was also twice named the Walworth County Player of the Year. As a junior, she averaged a conference-high 20.9 points per game as well as 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. That not only earned her state AP first team honors for the first time in her career, she was also selected to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State First Team for the second straight season.
"Alana is one of the most versatile players we have signed at UNLV," said Olivier. "She can shoot the three, take you off the dribble or post you up and score inside, and is a relentless rebounder with good size and strength. I will be very surprised if she doesn't make an immediate impact in our program. It's great to get a player like her from the best club program in Wisconsin."
Miller is a 5-8 combo guard out of Lemon Grove, Calif. This past season, she averaged 14.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game while helping Mount Miguel High School to the CIF Championship, and a runner-up finish her first two years on the squad. A three-time all-league selection, including first team in 2009-10, she was selected to the All-CIF and All-CIF Division 3 first teams her junior season as well.
"Danielle is an athletic guard who knows how to score," said Olivier. "She has a quick first step with a nice pull-up jumper, and we love her defensive intensity. She played for the best club program in San Diego (Elite Basketball Organization) and that experience should have her ready to help us right away".
