Bowl Team To Be Honored At Homecoming

Nov. 3, 2010

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of UNLV's Las Vegas Bowl victory, the entire 2000 Rebel football team is invited to take part in the school's Homecoming events, the Athletics Department announced Wednesday.

The 2000 Rebels, under the direction of head coach John Robinson and led by starting quarterback and MWC Offensive Newcomer of the Year Jason Thomas boasted the following All-Mountain West Conference honorees: running back Jeremi Rudolph, receiver Nate Turner, offensive lineman John Greer, defensive lineman Anton Palepoi, cornerback Kevin Thomas, safety Randy Black and kick returner Troy Mason.

That fall, the Rebels won their last three games of the regular season in dramatic fashion to earn a spot in the Las Vegas Bowl where they downed Arkansas 31-14 en route to a final overall record of 8-5.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the school's third and most-recent bowl team, members of the 2000 squad will join all UNLV football lettermen as guests of head coach Bobby Hauck and the 2010 Rebels at the Homecoming game vs. Wyoming at Sam Boyd Stadium. Representatives of the 2000 team will serve as honorary captains at the pregame coin flip and the entire squad will take the field to be recognized between the first and second quarters.

All former UNLV football players and one guest are invited to join in on the Nov. 13 festivities, which will include a pregame meal from Memphis Championship Barbecue in the north end zone from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and a player tunnel welcoming the current team on to the field to face the Cowboys at 7 p.m.

All UNLV football lettermen must RSVP by contacting Sara Swanson by e-mail at sara.swanson@unlv.edu.
