SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - New Mexico's Kate Wyrick scored with just under four minutes in the second overtime to escape with a 2-1 victory over UNLV in the semifinals of the 2010 Mountain West Conference women's soccer championships on Thursday afternoon from the SDSU SportsDeck. The loss ended the Rebels' season at 11-8-1. The top-seeded Lobos advanced to the championship game while improving to 12-1-5.

Fifth-seed UNLV took an early lead in the game, as Sarah Naranjo sent a Rebel corner kick to the right side of the box, and sophomore Caitlin Allen would head the ball into the top left corner for a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute. That lead held up until the final minute of the opening half. when Allen attempted to clear a ball. Natalie Jenks was able to get in front of the ball, and then slipped a shot past UNLV goalie Kylie Wassell from close range to tie the game at 1-1 in the 44th minute.

While New Mexico held a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half, UNLV was the aggressors in the second half, taking eight shots to six for the Lobos. Neither team would find the back of the net, sending the game into extra periods. New Mexico took two shots in the first overtime, and both teams took one shot each in the second overtime. With the game just minutes away from going to a penalty kick shootout, the Lobos got a lucky break when a ball was sent high towards the goal and was misplayed by a leaping Wassell. The ball fell through her hands and landed right in front of Wyrick, and with Wassell out of the goal, Wyrick quickly unleashed a shot from five yards out into the back of the net for the golden goal in the 107th minute.

UNM finished with an 18-12 edge on shots, and 8-5 on shots on goal. The Lobos also held a 7-2 edge on corner kicks. Wassell finished with six saves in goal for UNLV, while Kelli Cornell posted four for the Lobos.
