Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (5-1) knocked off the Boise State Broncos (1-4) Thursday night, 11-3 in five innings, during the first night of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic from Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead through two innings and sailed the rest of the way before putting six more scores on the board to end the game in the fifth. The Rebel offense was led by a career-high effort by Tara Bendt, who racked up three RBI on the night. The win extends UNLV's winning streak to five.

The Rebels began quickly with a solo run in the first off a one-run double by Jaci Hull. The two-base hit scored Bendt from first, who initially reached on a one-out walk.

UNLV added three more tallies in the second. Ashli Holland began the inning with a single and was later joined on the base paths when Alyssia De La Torre was walked. Holland moved up to third on a fly out and then scored on a double to left by Marissa Nichols. With De La Torre and Nichols sitting in scoring position, Bendt delivered a two-run single to push the Rebel lead to 4-0.

The teams traded runs in the third with BSU getting an RBI-single by Laeha Hill. UNLV countered with a solo home run by Tayler Aleman.

The Broncos struck for two more runs in the fourth cutting UNLV's lead to 5-3. BSU recorded five hits in the inning and forced UNLV to bring Stephanie Bregante in relief of Kylie Wagner (3-0).

UNLV closed things out with the six-run sixth inning. Aleman began the inning with a one-out single and came around to score one batter later on a two-run blast by Holland that bounced off the scoreboard in left. Laura Briones followed with a single of her own and was then pinch run for by Laura King, who promptly took second on a wild pitch. Chey Farley then delivered an RBI-double to plate King. Following a walk to Nichols, Bendt collected her third RBI of the game with a single to score Farley. The Rebels wound up loading the bases for a two-run single by Kendall Fearn that ended the game.

Wagner improved to 3-0 on the year in 3.2 innings of work. She allowed three runs on seven hits and surrendered two walks.

Bregante notched her first save of the season and fourth of her career in 1.1 innings of relief. She fanned two of the four batters she faced.

BSU's Allie Crump (1-3) was saddled with the loss in only 2.0 innings of her start. Crump was touched for four runs on five hits. She walked two, as well.

In all, Bronco pitching gave up 11 runs on 12 hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Rebels return to action on Friday afternoon with back-to-back games against San Diego and Hawai'i. UNLV will face USD at 3:45 pm, prior to the UH contest at 6 pm.
