LAS VEGAS - The 30th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive match, 6-1, over Denver at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 9-2 overall while the Pioneers fell to 3-8.
The hosts began the morning by sweeping three doubles matches to grab a 1-0 lead. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Jana Albers upped their record in dual matches to 10-1 with an 8-6 win over Julia Bauregger and Sophia Bergner at the top spot, which gave Nedeltcheva her school-record 89th career doubles triumph. The 43rd-ranked duo of Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun doubled up their opponents 8-4 at No. 2; while Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi breezed to an 8-1 victory on court three.
Moving to singles, senior start Nedeltcheva, ranked 45th nationally, improved to 21-3 in singles, including 10-0 in dual matches, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over 81st-ranked Ute Schnoy. Four other Lady Rebels posted straight-set wins as well: Pavlovic, 6-3, 6-2 over Bergner at No. 3; Hidvegi, 6-3, 6-2 over Emma Isberg at No. 4; Maskaljun, 6-3, 6-0 over Lorinda Boothman at No. 5; and Rumyana Terzieva, 6-0, 6-0 over Mikele Smith on court six.
The Lady Rebels will put their perfect 9-0 home record on the line Sunday by hosting No. 37 Pepperdine. The Waves rallied to defeat UNLV 4-3 just last month in Los Angeles as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament. Doubles action begins at 10 a.m. and admission to all UNLV matches is free of charge.
