Final Stats
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The UNLV Rebels (8-5) were shut out by the Fordham Rams (6-3) by a score of 4-0 Saturday night from Big League Dreams in Cathedral City, Calif. The Rams struck early with three runs over the second and third frames to take hold of the game and rode the hot right hand of Jen Mineau in the circle.
Fordham used the long ball to notch its first three runs of the game. Erin Fisher put the Rams on the scoreboard with a solo shot down the line in left with one out in the second. Jamie LaBovick smashed a two-run shot to straight-away center to push the lead to 3-0 in the third and end the night for Jessica O'Connor (1-1) in the circle for UNLV.
The Rams added an insurance run in the sixth off of back-to-back two-out singles. Meghan Shager began the rally with a single through the right side and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jocelyn Dearborn then singled to right to plate Shager from scoring position.
The Rebels only mustered four hits on the evening with Tara Bendt collecting two of them.
UNLV's best scoring opportunity came in the sixth when Bendt and Paige Emerson reached on singles. Both were left stranded when Mineau got a questionable strikeout and a foul out to end the threat.
O'Connor was stuck with the loss in 2.1 innings of work. She was touched for three runs on six hits. She walked one and struck out one.
Kylie Wagner spelled O'Connor in the circle and threw the remaining 3.2 innings for the Rebels. Wagner allowed one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Mineau improved to 5-1 on the year with the complete-game win. She struck out 13, while allowing only four base knocks and one walk.
The Rebels are back in action Sunday afternoon with games against the Stanford Cardinal (11:00 am) and the Long Island Blackbirds (1:00 pm) at Big League Dreams.
