Final Stats
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - The UNLV Rebels (8-6) lost 6-0 to the #10 Stanford Cardinal Sunday afternoon in Cathedral City, Calif., at Big League Dreams. The Cardinal scored runs in each of the first three innings taking a 5-0 lead before notching a sixth score in the sixth frame.
Stanford struck early and often en route to its 6-0 victory. The Cardinal took a 1-0 lead in the first off an RBI-single by Maya Burns. Jenna Rich scored from third on Burns' hit after initially reaching on a two-out triple to right.
The Cardinal increased the lead to 2-0 following a solo home run by Melisa Koutz to down the line in left to open up the bottom of the second.
The Rebels fell behind 5-0 after Stanford put three more scores on the board in the third. Two RBI-singles and an illegal pitch brought in the three tallies and ended the day for Traci Odegard (2-3) in the circle.
Odegard tossed 2.1 innings and was stuck with the loss. She allowed five runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out one.
Jessica O'Connor relieved Odegard and tossed the final 3.2 innings of the game. O'Connor gave up one run on three hits. She struck out four and walked two.
Stanford struck for one more score in the sixth to increase the lead to six.
Teagan Gerhart (7-1) picked up the win in complete-game fashion, as she struck out eight, but surrendered six hits.
UNLV left six runners on in the game. The Rebels left two runners in scoring position in each the first and fourth innings.
The Rebels are back in action Sunday afternoon with a contest against the Long Island Blackbirds (1:00 pm) at Big League Dreams.
