SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Bruin Wave Invitational First Round Results
The UNLV women's golf team shot an opening-round 294 (+6) and is tied for seventh following the first round of play at the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday, which is being held at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita, Calif.
The Rebels were paced by junior Therese Koelbaek, who turned in her first sub-par round of the spring, firing a 2-under 70 that has her in a group that is tied for seventh after the first 18 holes of play. Koelbaek opened with three birdies on her front nine, and then closed with another on her last hole of the day, the par-5 ninth. Her score helped the Rebels tie for their third-lowest round of the year.
UNLV senior Natasha Krishna shot even-par 70 on the day, rolling in three birdies against three bogies, and she is currently tied for 11th after today's opening round. Alejandra Guacaneme is tied for 38th with a 75 (+3), while Mandi Incorvaia and Kristen Schelling are in a group that is tied for 49th with a 77 (+5). Also on the course today for the Rebels was sophomore Bethany Glassford, who is playing as an individual and turned in a strong round of 1-over 73, which has her tied for 19th.
"That was a much better round today than we have been playing," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "Therese and Natasha had really solid first rounds and Alejandra was strong coming in. We really needed a round like this and hopefully we can build off of this during the rest of the tournament."
No. 10 Arizona has the team lead with a 5-under 283, three strokes better than No. 2 UCLA and No. 9 USC. Molly Aronsson of Washington and Danielle Kang of Pepperdine share the individual lead after round one, with each firing a round of 5-under 67. UNLV is part of an 18-team field that features seven teams in the latest Golfweek top-25 poll, including top-ranked Arizona State, No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 9 USC and No. 10 Arizona.
Tuesday's second round begins at 8:00 a.m. (PT), with teams starting off of holes No. 1 and 10 at 8:00 a.m. on the par-72, 6,282-yard course.
