Week Seven Release in PDF Format
LEADING OFF: The UNLV Rebels head back to Southern California for the third straight weekend with a trio of contests in Los Angeles.
UNLV will open up the weekend with a Friday afternoon contest (2:00 pm) with the Loyola Marymount Lions.
The Rebels will then play a Saturday afternoon doubleheader (1:00 pm) at the #5/6 UCLA Bruins in Westwood.
GameTracker links can be found on UNLV's official website, www.UNLVRebels.com.
ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels will stay on the road for the fourth straight week when they participate in BYU's Round Robin Tournament (April 2-3) held at the Canyons Sports Complex in St. George, Utah.
UNLV will play once on Friday, April 2 (3:00 pm MT/2:00 PT) against the Idaho State Bengals. They will then play a pair on Saturday, April 3, with contests against Idaho State (2:30 pm MT/1:30 pm PT) and Cal State Bakersfield (5:00 pm MT/4:00 pm PT).
LOOKING BACK A WEEK: The UNLV Rebels went 3-2 last weekend at Cal State Fullerton's Judi Garman Classic held in Fullerton, Calif.
UNLV opened up the Garman with a 9-4 Friday victory its second win over Purdue in as many weeks. The two played the previous week at the Long Beach State Invitational. The Rebels rallied from a 3-0 first-inning deficit for the "W".
The Rebels then played a split doubleheader on Saturday with a 14-13 loss to #4 Michigan before a 7-1 triumph over San Jose State. The Michigan contest was a slugfest between the Wolverines and Rebels, as the teams combined for 23 hits. UNLV recouped later in the day by gaining a seven-run cushion before the Spartans managed to score their only run.
In one of the tournament's final games, UNLV knocked off DePaul by a 5-4 margin for the program's first win in the head-to-head series. The Rebels raced out to a five-run lead with scores in the fourth and fifth innings before staving off a Blue Demon rally.
Offensively, the team hit at a .348 clip with five players amassing .357 or better batting averages. Ashli Holland led the team with her .500 effort with eight hits (two doubles and one home run), seven RBI and five runs.
In the circle, Jessica O'Connor went 3-1 in 24.0 innings of work. O'Connor went the distance in each of her three starts, while suffering her only loss in a relief outing.
RUNNING AWAY: Jaci Hull, who has her name imbedded in 13 of UNLV's career records, became the program's leader in runs scored last weekend when she crossed home plate for the second time in a 14-13 loss to #4 Michigan.
Hull is no stranger to owning a career mark, as she became the program's leader in walks last season. With each free pass taken this season, she adds to it with 135 to-date.
Hull entered Cal State Fullerton's Judi Garman Classic (March 18-21) two runs shy of Kim Rondina's (1994-97) 168 run tally. Hull then scored once against Purdue to pull within one and then surpassed the mark with help from Ashli Holland's three-run home run in the third inning versus Michigan.
Besides topping the charts in runs and walks, she is within striking distance of the RBI and home run records, as well. Coincidentally, she will have to surpass Rondina, once again, for both.
