TUCSON, Ariz. - UNLV women's golf sophomore Kristen Schelling has the first-day lead at the MountainView Collegiate, and her play is a major reason the Rebels are tied for third following two rounds of play Friday at MountainView Golf Club.
Schelling opened her day by firing a 2-over 74, then shaved two strokes off of that with an afternoon round of even-par 72, giving her a total of 2-over 146 heading into tomorrow's final round. UNLV is tied for third with a team score of 21-over 597, which is just two strokes behind team leader Texas Tech, while BYU is sandwiched between the Red Raiders and Rebels.
"Kristen played great and it is good to see her perform at the level we all know she can," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler. "We are very happy where we are sitting for tomorrow, and we are confident we can play well and bring home the victory."
Joining Schelling in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard is junior Therese Koelbaek, who is tied for 13th with a two-round score of 5-over 149, as she carded rounds of 72 (E) and 77 (+5) on the day. Just outside of the top 20 is senior Natasha Krishna, who is tied for 23rd with a score of 7-over 151 (72-79).
Rounding out the UNLV scorecard is Alejandra Guacaneme (75-78--153, +9), who is tied for 40th, while Mandi Incorvaia (77-78--155, +11) is tied for 53rd. Bethany Glassford is playing as an individual, and she is tied for 88th with a two-round score of 20-over 164 (81-83).
Saturday's final round will get underway with a 6:30 a.m. (PT) shot gun start on the par-72, 6,227-yard MountainView Golf Club course.
