The No. 7 UNLV men's golf team is in 11th place with a two-round total of 7-over 575 after the first day of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, which is being played at Karsten Golf Club (par 71, 7,057 yards). The 16-team field played 36 holes Friday and will conclude the tournament tomorrow with 18 holes.
The Rebels posted rounds of 5-over 289 and 2-over 286 on the tournament's first day, and are being paced by Eddie Olson, who is tied for 27th with a score of even-par 142. Olson opened with a 1-under 70 and followed that in the afternoon with a 1-over 72, and he had one of two Rebel rounds that were below par on the day. Jeremiah Wooding fired the lowest round of the day for UNLV, a 2-under 69 during Friday's second round.
Arizona has the team lead with a 14-under 554 after carding rounds of 6-under 278 and 8-under 276, which is two strokes better than USC and four ahead of UCLA. Steve Lim of USC has the individual lead with a 9-under 133 following rounds of 3-under 68 and 6-under 65 on Friday.
Other Rebel players: Brett Kanda (71-73=144, +2, T34th), Derek Ernst (73-73=146, +4, T51st), Colby Smith (75-72=147, +5, T56th) and Wooding (78-69=147, +5, T56th).
Saturday's final round will get underway at 7:00 a.m. (PT) and the Rebels will be among the first groups on the course, as they will tee off on hole No. 10.
