LAS VEGAS - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team will travel to Provo, Utah, for the PING Cougar Classic, which will be played at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 6902 yards) on Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24.
The 18-team tournament will most likely consist of 36 holes played on Friday and a final round of 18 holes taking place on Saturday, but that could change depending on the weather forecast.
The field will consist of Air Force, August State, Boise State, BYU, Cal State Northridge, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Nevada, Reno, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Pacific, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and Wyoming
BYU is the defending champion at the event as the Cougars won last year's tournament with a 54-hole score of 22-under 842. The individual title was captured by Southern Utah's Matt McArthur who finished at 11-under 205 and won by a shot.
UNLV did not compete in last year's Cougar Classic. The Rebels' lineup this week will include Derek Ernst, Colby Smith, Brett Kanda, Jeremiah Wooding and Kevin Penner.
In its last tournament, UNLV tied for eighth out of 16 teams at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., April 2-3. UNLV has won four team titles this season, which is the most the program has had in a season since winning five in 1998-99.
