The No. 7 UNLV men's golf team carded its best round of the tournament with a 3-under 281 on Saturday to finish tied for eighth at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, which was played at Karsten Golf Club (par 71, 7,057 yards). The Rebels finished the two-day event with a team total of 4-over 856 (289-286-281) over 54 holes of play, and they tied with Arizona State in the team standings.
UNLV was led by Eddie Olson, who finished the tournament at even-par 213 after he shot a 71 (E) on the final day of the tournament, and the senior was in a group that tied for 24th overall. A pair of Rebels shot below par on Saturday, with Jeremiah Wooding turning in the lowest round of the tournament by a UNLV player with a 3-under 68, while Derek Ernst shot a 2-under 69.
Washington won the team tournament, coming from behind by shooting a 16-under 268 on Saturday for a team score of 839 (-13), good for a two-stroke victory over UCLA. J.J. Spaun of San Diego State earned medalist honors with an 8-under 205.
Other Rebel players: Ernst (73-73-69=215, +2, T35th), Wooding (78-69-69=215, +2, T35th), Brett Kanda (71-73-74=218, +5, T49th) and Colby Smith (75-72-73=220, +7, T61st).
UNLV will now close out its regular season at the Ping Cougar Classic, which will be April 23-24 in Provo, Utah.
