Rebels Headed To San Diego

LAS VEGAS -The UNLV men's golf team, ranked No. 12 in the nation in Golfstat's rankings, has been awarded the No. 2 seed at the NCAA's San Diego Regional, which will be played at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego, Calif., beginning Thursday, May 20, the NCAA announced Monday.

The invitation marks UNLV's 22nd straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 20-22. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals from each regional to make up the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those teams that will compete for the NCAA title.

The other five regional sites are Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga., The Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., Traditions Club in College Station, Texas, Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., and The Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.

The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship finals will be conducted June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is the host institution for this year's championship.

In its last outing, UNLV finished third at the Mountain West Conference Championship, which was held last week in Tucson, Ariz. It marked UNLV's eighth top-three finish of the season (in 12 tournaments). UNLV has won four team titles this season, which marks its most team wins in a season since recording five in 1998-99.

Listed below are the teams and individuals selected to participate in the San Diego Regional. Teams winning automatic qualification are designated by their conferences in parenthesis.
