Rebels To Compete For NCAA Title

May 30, 2010

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team, ranked 12th nationally, tied for third out of 13 teams at the NCAA San Diego Regional, May 20-22, and has advanced to the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, which will be held June 1-6 at The Honors Course (par 72, 7,395 yards), which is located just north of Chattanooga, Tenn., in Ooltewah. The championship is being hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

This year's NCAA Championship will mark UNLV's 17th appearance at the event in the last 22 years and will mark the Rebels' third trip in the last six years. UNLV did not advance to the NCAA finals as a team in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Five teams from each of six regionals advanced to this year's NCAA Championship, which features 30 of the nation's best teams. In addition, the top individual finisher from each regional that wasn't on an advancing team will compete at the finals.

There will be 54 holes of stroke play over the first three days (18 holes each day) to crown an individual champion and provide a cut to eight teams. Those eight, seeded by their finish in the medal format, will play single-elimination match play over the following three days to determine the national champion. This is only the second year that the format will be match play to determine the national title winner.

The NCAA Championship will have live scoring on the internet available on UNLVRebels.com, courtesy of Golfstat.
