Rebels Place 11 On Academic List

June 30, 2010

LAS VEGAS - UNLV softball had 11 student-athletes named to the 2010 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Conference Award, including seven repeat selections, the league announced. The program has now led the conference in softball honorees the past three years.

The Rebels were led two student-athletes that have both earned the award five times, Jaci Hull and Marissa Nichols. Laura Briones followed closely behind with her fourth nod, while Ashli Holland and Kendall Fearn took home their third each. Tara Bendt and Korin Cuico rounded out the repeat awardees with two apiece.

UNLV had a record-setting 92 student-athletes earn Spring 2010 Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors, the league office announced today. The 92 awardees bests the previous mark of 90 that were honored in 2006. In all, UNLV posted its third consecutive year of having at least 134 student-athletes achieve academic recognition with 42 individuals honored in the fall of 2009 (39 in the MWC and three in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation).

Overall, 760 student-athletes from the league's nine institutions were named to the academic team. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
