LAS VEGAS - Four UNLV women's golf student-athletes have been named 2009-10 All-America Scholar recipients, the National Golf Coaches Association announced this week.
A total of 494 women's collegiate golfers were recognized from NCAA Divisions I, II and III. The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar teams includes carrying a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and also having competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II and III) of their school's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
UNLV's selections to the team were sophomore Bethany Glassford (photography major), junior Alejandra Guacaneme (journalism major), junior Therese Koelbaek (management major) and sophomore Kristen Schelling (communications major).
"We are honored to have four student-athletes recognized for this prestigious award," said Amy Bush, UNLV's head women's golf coach. "I am very excited for them. They have worked very hard on and off the golf course."
The Rebels closed their season at the NCAA West Regional at Stanford, finishing 16th. Koelbaek led the team in scoring average with 73.63 in 32 rounds played. Schelling was fourth on the squad at 76.52 in 29 rounds played, while Guacaneme was fifth at 76.66 in 32 rounds and Glassford was sixth at 78.35 in 26 rounds.
All four were also named to the 2010 Spring Academic All-MWC team, which was announced at the end of June.
