ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team closed action at the 31st Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational with an eighth-place finish here today at the UNM Championship Golf Club in Albuquerque, N.M..
Oregon took the team title with a 5-over 881 total while Ohio State was second (+7, 883), Colorado third (+8, 884), UC Davis and Denver tied for fourth (+16, 892) followed by TCU in sixth (+21, 897) and San Diego State seventh (+24, 900).
"Today's finish is a great start to our season," said head coach Amy Bush. "Beating some higher ranked teams gives us great confidence for our upcoming tournaments."
Senior Therese Koelbaek started the day with a two-stroke lead Erica Omlid or Oregon and Rachel Rohanna of Ohio State, but finished the day with a 2-over 75, falling into a tie for third place with San Diego State's Malin Enarsson. Koelbaek's 215 total is the fourth-best tournament-to-par finish in UNLV history.
"Therese played great today," added Bush. "She is really hitting the ball well."
Senior Alejandra Guacaneme finished with a 1-over 74 today and 5-over for the tournament, giving her 20th place over the two-day event. Junior Kristen Schelling shot a 5-over 78 on the day, finishing 9-over par.
The Rebels will be in action next at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo., September 26-28.
