LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)
- The UNLV women's golf team packs the clubs up and heads east this week to Vail, Colorado, for the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club, Sept. 25-27.

"This tournament is an excellent opportunity for our players to face some of the top teams in the country," said head coach Amy Bush. "The tournament is sponsored by Golfweek Magazine, so we have a chance at gaining some media attention if we play well."

The tournament will play host to 18 teams, including 12 ranked among the top 50 in final 2009-10 Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings: Arizona (4), Pepperdine (9), Virginia (11), Tennessee (12), Denver (16), Texas A&M (23), Tulane (27), UC Davis (31), UNLV (38), San Jose State (39), Chattanooga (44) and Campbell (50).

"We will be facing tough competition this week," added Bush. "At this event we will be playing against eight higher ranked teams. Our team has a wonderful opportunity to play well and move up in the rankings."

The Rebels entered the season ranked 38th and are led by two-time All-American Therese Koelbaek, who returns for her senior campaign at UNLV and tied for third at last weekend's Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico after shooting a 4-under 215 for the weekend.

Fellow senior Alejandra Guacaneme as well as juniors Kristen Schelling and Bethany Glassford and freshman Katerina Prorokova round out the Rebel team that will compete in the three-day tournament. Guacaneme registered a 5-over 224 to tie for 23rd place while Prorokova ended her first collegiate tournament at 15-over par and in 53rd place.

"Our goal is to remain patient," added Bush. "We will be facing colder temperatures and higher elevation. Our players are great at overcoming the elements and playing well; in the past we have always played best in the worst conditions."

Action is set to begin Sunday morning, September 26, and conclude on Tuesday afternoon.
