LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Another hot day in Las Vegas and the Lady Rebels stayed even hotter Saturday at the UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational being played at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
A pair of UNLV freshmen will meet for the Flight One singles title on Sunday after both posted upsets of ranked opponents in the semifinals. Lucia Batta upset the tournament's top seed, No. 44 Krista Damico of Texas 6-2, 6-1 while Aleksandra Josifoska downed her new teammate, No. 72 Jana Albers of UNLV, 6-1, 7-6.
Also winning to reach the singles final, this time in Flight Three, were UNLV teammates Anna Maskaljun and Adrienn Hidvegi.
The event includes players from Texas, Illinois, Illinois State and Northern Arizona.
"It was another great day for our team," said UNLV head coach Kevin Cory. "We played really well in doubles today, winning all four matches and overall we have six of our eight players in the finals of their flights. Lucia had a great win against college tennis' 44th-ranked player and Aleksandra reaching the finals in her first collegiate event is really impressive."
In doubles, Nives Pavlovic and Josifoska will play for the Flight One crown after advancing with an 8-6 win.
The final round is scheduled for Sunday, beginning with doubles at 10 a.m. All matches are free and open to the public.
