WOLCOTT, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up play at the annual Golfweek Conference Challenge held at the Red Sky Golf Club in Colorado in sixth place at 32-over par for the tournament.
"We had a great tournament," said head coach Amy Bush. "We were able to beat some higher ranked teams and our players keep getting better each week."
Virginia shot 1-under as a team in the final round and took home first place with a 13-over par total followed by Arizona in second (+19), Tulane third (+25), UC Davis fourth (+27) and Tennessee fifth (+30).
Therese Koelbaek started the day atop the leader board at 5-under, but ran into trouble just two holes in, bogeying the third, sixth and seventh to fall to 2-under. Koelbaek's lone birdie of the day came at the fourth, which helped her finish the front nine at 2-over. After six consecutive pars on the back nine, Koelbaek bogyed the par-4 16th, falling to 3-over on the day and finishing the week with a 2-under 214 total.
"Therese missed some putts today," said Bush. "She kept giving herself opportunities to score and had a great tournament overall."
Kristen Schelling saved the best round for last this week, carding an even-par 72 on the day to climb six spots from start to finish, ending in a tie for 21st. Alejandra Guacaneme finished tied for 35th (+13, 229) while Katerina Prorokova followed one stroke behind and in a tie for 40th place (+14, 230). Mandi Incorvaia turned in her lowest round of the tournament with a 6-over 78, finishing in a tie for 61st (+24, 240).
"We are looking forward to a short break in between tournaments," added Bush. "It will allow our girls to get back on the course in a practice setting and work on some things in preparation for our next tournament."
The Rebels will be idle until the beginning of October when they travel to the Dale McNamara Invitational in Owasso, Okla., Oct. 11-13.
