Mountain West Conference Release l World Amateur Team Championship Info
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golf senior Therese Koelbaek earned this season's first Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month honor, the conference office announced Thursday.
"It is always an honor to receive this kind of recognition," Koelbaek. "I am really excited that the hard work is paying off and hopefully I can keep it going."
Koelbaek is coming off back-to-back third-place finishes in the first two tournaments of the season. She posted a 4-under total of 215 at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in New Mexico, sharing the lead heading into the last day before finishing with UNLV's fourth-best score to par in a tournament in program history.
"Therese winning the MWC Golfer of the Month is a great way to start our fall season," said first-year head coach Amy Bush. "She played great golf in September and gave herself opportunities to win tournaments. I am excited to see what October brings for her."
At the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge, Koelbaek fired an opening-round 69 and followed it up with a 2-under 70 in the second round before finishing in third for the second straight week.
The Holte, Denmark native has helped the Rebels to back-to-back top-10 finishes as a team and currently carries the lowest scoring average in the MWC at 71.50 through six rounds. The award marks the fourth time in her career that she has earned Golfer of the Month.
Koelbaek and the Rebels will be back in action Oct. 11-13 at the Dale McNamara Invitational at the Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Okla.
Following the tournament, Koelbaek will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina as one of three members of the Danish National Team competing at the World Amateur Team Championships, held Oct. 15-23.
