Complete Day One Results

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Four players from host UNLV survived a marathon first day of singles action on a warm Wednesday at the 2011 USTA/ITA Division I Women's Mountain Regional Championships, which are being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Second-seeded Lucia Batta, ranked 95th in the nation, enjoyed a first-round bye before white-washing Alejandra Lozano of Idaho, 6-0, 6-0, to advance. Third-seeded Aleskandra Josifoska, ranked 117th, had a bye and then breezed by Montana's Ashley Mackay 6-1, 6-1. Nives Pavlovic, seeded ninth here, blanked Austin McMillan of Boise State, 6-0, 6-0, before rolling past Andie Young of BYU, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round. Freshman Anett Ferenczi-Bako also won twice on the opening day. She downed Weber State's Annika Karlsen 6-2, 6-0, before racing past Jennifer Buchanon of Northern Colorado 6-1, 6-0. All four will play one round of singles on Thursday after a couple of rounds of doubles are staged. The tournament's finals are scheduled for Sunday.

Lady Rebel freshman Manon de Lanlay won her first match, 6-1, 6-1 over Sophie Vickers of Idaho, before falling in the Round of 64. Her teammate, Rumyana Terzieva, had a bye but then lost her first match of the day. They will move into the consolation bracket along with UNLV first-round loser Ella Bourchier.

More than 120 women's collegiate tennis players are competing this week at UNLV as one of the 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions from the regionals will advance to the 2011 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 3-6, at the indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
