Rebels Tied For Seventh After Day One

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up action at the 30th Edean Ihlandfeldt Invitational held at the Sahalee Country Club in Seattle, Washtied for seventh overall after turning in a team score of 311 (+23).

Oregon State (+10) holds a one stroke lead over Colorado (+11) and California (+11). Oregon sits in fourth after shooting a 13-over par round as a team while host Washington (+15) rounds out the top five.

UNLV was led by freshman Mayko Chwen Wang, who is in a four-way tie for eighth place after turning in a 2-over par round of 74. Wang's round of 74 was just one stroke off her career-low round fired last week in the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque.

Three Rebels are tied for 33rd at 7-over par after the first day. Katerina Prorokova, Marguerite Swearingen and Dana Finkelstein all turned in rounds of 79 on the day.

Alex Stewart (Colorado) is the leader in the clubhouse after day one as the only player in the field to turn in a sub-par round at 2-under 70. Cassy Isagawa (Oregon) and Anica Yoo (Oregon State) are both one stroke back at even par. Four players are tied for fourth at 1-over par.

The field of 12 teams includes four ranked in the nation's top 50, including No. 15 Cal, No. 17 and host Washington, No. 23 Colorado and No. 34 Oregon. BYU, Gonzaga, Idaho, Nebraska, Oregon State, San Jose State and Washington State round out the tournament field.

Action will continue tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. PT start time before concluding Wednesday morning with an 8 a.m. PT starting time. The par-72, 6,063 yard course has played host to many prestigious throughout the years, including the 2010 U.S. Senior Open, 2002 NEC World Championship and 1998 PGA Championship.

After opening up the tournament as part of the first group of pairings, the Rebels will begin teeing off tomorrow in the last set of groups at 10:45 a.m. PT.
