LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com)
- The UNLV women's golf team opened up action at the 38th Annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, carding a team score of 7-over par 295 in the first round to put them in sixth place, 10 strokes off the lead.

"Our girls were able to carry the momentum from last week's tournament into today's first round," said head coach Amy Bush. "We are in a great position to improve our standing with another solid round tomorrow."

Sophomore transfer Charlotte Brooks led the way for UNLV, carding an even-par round of 72, standing in a 10-way tie for 12th place. After bogies on two of the first six holes, Brooks birdied the par-4 18th to make the turn at +1, then added birdies on the first and fifth holes before four consecutive pars ended her opening round.

Fellow sophomore Katerina Prorokova and freshman Dana Finkelstein each shot 2-over 70s on the day. After a 1-over par front nine, Prorokova opened the back with two straight bogies before making birdie on the par-5 9th. Finkelstein's tallied three birdies on the day - all on the back nine - after playing the front at 2-over.

Mayko Chwen Wang battled back after a 4-over par front nine to go 1-under on the back, finishing at 3-over while Bethany Calvo cared a 8-over 80 to round out the Rebel lineup.

Florida holds the team lead at 3-under with host Texas three strokes back. The Gators were the only team to come in under par after the first round. Oklahoma State (+2) is in third while Kent State and Tulsa (+5) are tied for fourth.

Evan Jensen (Florida) leads the field by one stroke after a 4-under round of 68. Mercedes Germino (Kent State) is in second at 3-under while Kelsey Vines (Oklahoma State) Jessie Gerry (Wisconsin), Kristina Merkle (Tulsa) and Rebecca Hellborn (New Mexico) are all tied for third at 2-under.

Action from round two will kick off at 7:15 a.m. PT with the Rebels set to start at 9 a.m. PT.
