Rebels Ready for Spring Season

Feb. 28, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Following a solid fall campaign in which the UNLV women's golf team bagged top-10 finishes in all four events played, the Rebels will open the spring portion of the 2010-11 schedule February 28 in California.

The Rebels will travel to Santa Clarita, Calif., for the Bruin/Wave Invitational, co-hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine University at Robinson Ranch Golf Club. The tournament will feature 13 teams ranked in the top 100, including eight in the top 50.

Co-hosts No. 3 UCLA and No. 23 Pepperdine highlight the field and are followed by No. 10 Arizona, No. 25 Texas, No. 29 Stanford, No. 42 UNLV, No. 46 Oklahoma State and No. 48 San Diego State.

Also joining the field will be No. 53 New Mexico, No. 59 New Mexico State, No. 72 Long Beach State, No. 82 BYU, No. 90 Oregon State, Cal State Northridge and Washington State.

UNLV, led by senior, two-time All-American Therese Koelbaek, will play in the tournament for the third straight season and look to improve upon its 11th-place team finish a year ago. Koelbaek enters this weekend ranked No. 15 in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll. She posted four top-six finishes in the fall, including three, third-place efforts. She also earned back-to-back Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month honors and carded the lowest round in the conference during the fall with a 67 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

Koelbaek will be joined by seniors Alejandra Guacaneme and Mandi Incorvaia, junior Bethany Glassford and freshman Katerina Prorokova in the lineup for the first spring tournament. Additionally, junior Stephanie Whatley will compete as an individual.
