HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team concluded competition at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate this afternoon, finishing in 10th place following the third round of play at Half Moon Bay's Ocean Course.
The 37th-ranked Oregon Ducks and tournament co-hosts overcame a five-shot deficit to claim the team title over 27th-ranked Texas A&M, narrowly escaping with a one-shot win. Co-host UC Davis moved up three spots on the day to finish in a tie for third place with Long Beach State, 14 strokes off the lead while Northwestern rounded out the top five, two strokes behind the Aggies and Dirtbags.
"We came out today and reached our goal to improve upon the two rounds played yesterday," said first-year head coach Amy Bush. "Obviously we would have liked to finish a little higher, but a top-10 over a two-day tournament in the conditions everyone had to face is tough. We will get back and look to have some great practice rounds heading into the MWC Tournament."
Senior Therese Koelbaek started the day in a tie for 13th and had her streak of top-10 finishes on the line Tuesday morning. The three-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Week turned in the sixth- best round Tuesday, climbing seven spots to finish in a tie for sixth with a 7-over, 223 total.
Ellis Keenan matched her first-round score of 77 and finished tied for 35th at 16-over par. Alejandra Guacaneme carded her best round of the tournament today with a 4-over 76, moving up six spots to finish tied for 48th at 19-over par. Bethany Glassford (+21) and Katerina Prorokova (+23) rounded out the UNLV group.
Katerina Ruzickova (Texas A&M) edged Noelle Zavaleta (Long Beach State) and Ashley Edwards (Oregon) by two shots to claim the individual title, turning in a 2-over, 218 performance. Oregon had three players finish inside the top 10 while Texas A&M and Long Beach State each had two.
The Rebels will be in action next at the Mountain West Conference Championship, April 14-16 in Phoenix, Ariz. at the Wigwam Resort.
