Rebels Headed To San Diego

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team has been awarded the No. 6 seed at the NCAA's San Diego Regional, which will be played at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif., beginning Thursday, May 19, the NCAA announced Monday.

The invitation marks UNLV's 23rd straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 19-21. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals to make up the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals not on those teams that will compete for the NCAA title.

The other five regional sites are Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind., The Pete Dye River Course at Virginia Tech in Radford, Va., Golden Ocala Golf Club in Ocala, Fla., and Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship finals will be conducted May 31-June 5 at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla. Oklahoma State is the host institution for this year's championship.

In its last outing, UNLV finished third at the Mountain West Conference Championship, which was held last week in Tucson, Ariz. It marked UNLV's eighth top-five finish of the season (in 12 tournaments).

Listed below are the teams and individuals selected to participate in the San Diego Regional. Teams winning automatic qualification are designated by their conferences in parenthesis.
