Saturday Scrimmage In The Books

Aug. 20, 2011

CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team capped its first week of fall camp away from home with a matinee scrimmage under the sun.

"We still have a lot of work to do" said second-year head coach Bobby Hauck. "We were a bit inconsistent on both sides of the ball, but that is what camp is for, to work on the details that help you win ball games."

Sophomore Caleb Herring fared well during the live-action scrimmage, completing all five of his pass attempts, two of which found their way into the hands of fellow sophomore Marcus Sullivan. Herring also added an 18-yard run in the first series of the scrimmage.

"Today was a good time to see what we need to continue to work on," said Herring. "Execution on a consistent basis has been one of our goals will continue to be as we work through camp and into preparation for the first game of the season."

SCRIMMAGE NOTES

Recently converted fullback and redshirt freshman Wiliam Vea showed he is quickly acclimating to his new position, hauling in a 13-yard touchdown reception to cap the first scoring drive of the day for the offense.

Quarterback Taylor Barnhill flashed some speed on the ground, breaking a 30-yard run during the second series of action and following that up with a 41-yard scamper to give him over 70 yards on two carries on the ground.

The squad will receive a morning of rest tomorrow before a single afternoon session.
