Day One Results
ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team stands in 15th place following opening day action at the 32nd Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational held at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M..
Junior Katerina Prorokova leads the Rebels at 6-over par through the first two rounds. Prorokova turned in a 5-over round of 78 this morning before a 1-over 74 in the afternoon. She stands ties for 45th heading into tomorrow's final round.
Northwestern holds the team lead at 2-over through the first two rounds of play followed by Denver (+4), TCU (+5) and Baylor and San Diego State who are tied at 8-over par.
Sofia Hogland (New Mexico) is the current leader at 7-under par. Gina Clark (San Diego State) is two strokes off the lead while Kelly Drack (Denver) sits in third at 3-under and Devon Brown (Northwestern) in fourth at 2-under par. Five players are tied for fifth at 1-under par.
Freshman Mayko Chwen Wang carded the low round this morning for UNLV at 2-over par before shooting 5-over in the afternoon, standing tied for 51st and one stroke behind Prorokova. Classmate Marguerite Swearingen is 8-over for the tournament with rounds of 76 and 78 respectively.
Charlotte Brooks is 10-over par in her first tournament for UNLV after transferring from Tulsa a year ago. The sophomore New Zealand native shot 76 and 80 and has played the back nine at just 3-over through the first two rounds.
Ellis Keenan rounds out the lineup for UNLV having carded back-to-back rounds of 84.
The tournament will conclude with a shotgun start tomorrow morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the par-73 Championship Course.
