LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior Kevin Penner has been selected as the Co-Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Month for September, the league announced Friday. Penner shares the award with TCU freshman Julien Brun.
Penner led UNLV to the team title in the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs on Sept, 18-19. He finished the 54-hole tournament tied for first after firing a 7-under 209 (74-67-68) on the par 72, 7,370-yard Eisenhower-Blue Course on the campus of the United States Air Force Academy. The Rebels won the team title on the first playoff hole against Colorado with a score of 2-under after setting a tournament record with a 54-hole score of 20-under. No individual playoff was held because of travel schedules. It was the second individual tournament victory for Penner. He also tied for first at the 2011 Wyoming Desert Classic.
This is the first golfer of the month award for both individuals. The Rebels are currently playing in Albuquerque, N.M., at the William H. Tucker Invitational.
