ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team is in first place after two rounds at the William H. Tucker Invitational, which is being held at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,562 yards). The Rebels shot an opening-round 4-over-par 292, then followed that up with a second-round even-par 288 on Friday and hold a one-shot lead over host New Mexico at 4-over 580.
The Lobos are at 5-over 581 (299-282), while Arizona is third at 10-over (295-291). San Diego State is fourth at 11-over (295-292), followed by North Texas (296-292) and BYU (294-294), both tied for fifth at 12-over. The tournament consists of 16 teams.
BYU's Zachary Blair (69-70) leads all individuals at 5-under 139. New Mexico's James Erkenbeck is second at 4-under 140 (71-69). UNLV senior Derek Ernst shot a 3-under 69 during the first round and a 1-over 73 in the second and is tied for third with a 36-hole score of 2-under 142. Ernst's first round consisted of an eagle, three birdies and two bogeys.
Other Rebels: sophomore Nicholas Maruri is tied for 14th at 3-over 147 (78-69), sophomore Blake Biddle is tied for 20th at 4-over 148 (72-76), freshman Carl Jonson is also tied for 20th at 4-over 148 (75-73) and junior Kevin Penner is tied for 29th at 5-over 149 (76-73). There are a total of 96 individuals.

The Rebels are looking to capture their second tournament title in as many tries on the young season. UNLV won its season-opening tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo., last week.
