Football Earns Pair Of All-MW First Teamers

Dec. 4, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV had multiple players earn First Team All-Mountain West for the first time since 2006 as senior linebacker John Lotulelei and junior place-kicker Nolan Kohorst were honored as part of the conference's official postseason awards announced Tuesday.

Lotulelei (Kihei, Hawaii), announced yesterday as the Rebels' Defensive Most Valuable Player for 2012, currently ranks third in the Mountain West and 39th in the nation with 9.2 tackles per game and his total of 120 was the 10th-highest in UNLV single-season history. A team captain, he turned in a career-high 19 total tackles vs. Nevada, Reno and grabbed his first interception vs. Washington State.

Kohorst (Henderson, Nev.) is the first Rebel place-kicker to earn first team all-conference since UNLV Athletics Hall of Famer Nick Garritano earned the designation from the Big West Conference in 1994. Kohorst, who led the team in scoring this fall with 68 points, made 12-of-14 field goal attempts for a league-leading percentage of 85.7 (minimum of 10), which ranks 15th in the nation and second in the school's single-season history. He also made 32-of-33 extra-point attempts.

Also, a pair of Rebels earned honorable mention this year.

Running back Tim Cornett (Galena Park, Texas) rushed for 1,232 net yards, which was the fifth-most in UNLV single-season history. The junior, who added seven rushing touchdowns, became just the third Rebel in history to post at least eight 100-yard rushing games in a season.

Earning honorable mention for the second straight season, center Robert Waterman (Castaic, Calif.) was a member of the Rimington Award Watch List and graded out highest among UNLV lineman for the season at 92 percent. He allowed just one quarterback sack and helped produce both a 1,000-yard and 600-yard rusher this fall.
