LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Bryan Bonnell and Andrew Encinas lead the Scarlet team to a 4-1 victory over the Gray team in the second game of the Scarlet/Gray World Series on Friday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Bonnell threw 5.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out five. Encinas threw the final 1.2 innings and allowe no runs to secure the win.
Offensively they were led by Johnathan Torres, who finished with two hits. T.J. White, Joey Swanner and Cody Howard also contributed in the win by all singling to lead off the fourth inning.
Brayden Torres, who had retired the first nine batters to start the game, led the Gray team from the mound.
"It was a good, clean baseball game," associate head coach Stan Stolte said. "It was well pitched, no one recorded an error and only one walk was allowed from either side. It should be a good game tomorrow to see who steps up to win this series. We have 5-6 pitchers in the mix for the weekend rotation jobs this season and Bonnell and Torres are not making that an easy decision."
The rubber match between the two teams will be played on November 9 at 9:00 a.m. John Richy will get the start for the Scarlet team, while Kenny Oakley will get the nod for the Gray team. It will also mark the conclusion of the fall season.
Admission is free for the game and fans are encouraged to attend.
