Windsor, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golfer Dana Finkelstein secured her first career victory at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, which was being played at the par-72, 6,352-yard Ptarmigan Country Club.
"It's really exciting to get my first win," Finkelstein said. "I played really steady over the past three rounds. It's a great way to start the season and I'm looking forward to our next event."
The junior turned in a score of 4-under-par 212 (71-70-71) to beat California's Nicola Roessler and New Mexico's Sammi Stevens by one stroke. Finkelstein's victory is the first for UNLV since Therese Koelbaek won the Mountain West Championship tournament in 2011.
"Dana played good steady golf this week," head coach Amy Bush-Herzer said. "It is an awesome start for her personally and a great day for Rebel golf."
As a team, the Rebels finished fourth at 24-over 888 (295-303-288) behind California (9-over 873), Colorado (18-over 882) and Illinois (22-over 886).
"The incoming girls showed some great potential this week," Bush-Herzer said. "That potential mixed with our experience will be exciting this year. Our fourth place finish is an awesome start to the season."
