LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball held its first scrimmage of the fall today at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. It was a controlled scrimmage and some innings started with baserunners on. The hitting stars were Joey Armstrong with three hits and TJ white with two. On the mound John Richy and Cody Roper were both strong, as each threw three innings and only allowed one hit.
"We were very happy with today's scrimmage," said associate head coach Stan Stolte. "The kids played with a lot of energy. We have some strong competition at almost every position and for every role on the mound, which is the first time we've been able to say that since we started here. We just need let the kids play it out and win their jobs."
Tomorrow will be another controlled scrimmage starting at 9:00 am with sophomore Bryan Bonnell starting for the red team and freshmen Andrew Encinas starting for the black. It will also be a nine inning scrimmage with certain controlled situations.
