LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball wrapped up the first week of fall practice with another scrimmage at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Saturday.
From the plate Matt McCallister and Scott Tomassetti led the Rebels. Both singled with bases loaded, which scored two runs. From the mound, Bryan Bonnell, Brayden Torres and Matt Thomas all threw three shut out innings. Thomas was the most dominant, as he only threw 24 pitches in his appearance.
"Right now our pitchers are obviously ahead of the hitters," associate head coach Stan Stolte said. "They did a good job since we are only throwing fastballs and change ups and hitters have figured that out. We have got a long way to go but it was a good opening weekend."
The Rebels will be off until Tuesday. The team will hold its next scrimmages on Friday and Saturday. All practices and scrimmages are open to the public and begin at 9:00 a.m.

First Scrimmage A Success - UNLV baseball held its first scrimmage of the fall Friday, September 27 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. It was a controlled scrimmage and some innings started with baserunners on. The hitting stars were Joey Armstrong with three hits and TJ white with two. On the mound John Richy and Cody Roper were both strong, as each threw three innings and only allowed one hit.
"We were very happy with today's scrimmage," said associate head coach Stan Stolte. "The kids played with a lot of energy. We have some strong competition at almost every position and for every role on the mound, which is the first time we've been able to say that since we started here. We just need let the kids play it out and win their jobs."
