Despite holding an overall shot advantage in the game, UNLV was held scoreless in a 2-0 setback at Colorado College on Friday afternoon in Mountain West women's soccer action at Stewart Field.
It was a tight battle in the first half, with UNLV (7-7-1, 2-5 MW) taking eight shots to seven for the home team. Both goalies were kept busy in that opening half, with Rebel Jordan Sallee making two of her five total saves, while Rowan Frederiksen posted three saves in the first stanza.
The game entered halftime scoreless, and it would remain that way until the 58th minute. That's when the Tigers broke the tie thanks to a shot from Sarah Schweiss from 16 yards out. Jessie Ayers assisted on the score. UNLV stayed within a goal for the next 23 minutes until Colorado College took a 2-0 advantage. That second score was provided by Maddi Dunn, a goal from 12 yards out off an assist by AnneSophie LaPointe.
UNLV's final shot total was 17 to 16 for the Tigers, though Colorado College held the edge on shots on goal, 7-5. Five players each had a shot on goal for UNLV: Kristin Sankey, Denali Murnan, Dakota Blazak, Jordan Magnin and Sophie Cortes.
The Rebels will stay in Colorado Springs to take on fellow MW rival Air Force on Sunday at 11 am (PT).
