Box Score

UNLV suffered a tough loss on Friday night, as an own goal in the 21st minute allowed Fresno State to claim a 1-0 victory over the Rebels in Mountain West women's soccer action at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The loss sent UNLV to 6-4-1 overall, 1-2 in league play, while the Bulldogs moved to 2-10, 1-2 in the conference.

The winning score came in the 21st minute for the visitors. Fanny Johansson started the play when she sent a long pass to the right side to Jaycee Bingham, who would then angle towards the goal before taking a low shot attempt cross cage. The shot would have been wide, but a Rebel defender in her attempt to kick the ball out, instead kicked the ball into the goal. That own goal put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0, and would hold up as the game-winner.

The first half ended with UNLV holding a 4-3 edge on shots, and it was a 7-3 margin in the second half, but the Rebels could not get a shot past FS goalkeeper Domenique Banta. One of the Rebels' best chances came in the final minute when Gaby Vazquez took a hard shot from outside the box that Banta initially stopped before it slipped out. Vazquez charged in with an attempt to score on the loose ball, but Banta recovered and collected the ball just before Vazquez could get in range for an attempt.

UNLV finished the night with an 11-6 advantage on shots, while both teams had four shots on goal. Corner kicks were 4-1 in favor of the Rebels. Banta posted three saves for the Bulldogs to earn the shutout, while Jordan Sallee made three saves for the Rebels.

The Rebels remain at home for their next game, on Sunday at 10:30 am against San Jose State. That game is part of a doubleheader with the UNLV men's squad, who will kick off at 1 pm against Grand Canyon. Both games will be at Johann Field.
