2014 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Results

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 24 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round even-par 280 on Tuesday and finished in third place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which was played at Old Overton Golf Club (par 70, 7,228 yards).

Host Alabama won the team title for the seventh time in the last nine years, this time by 13 shots at 10-under 830. Florida State finished second at 3-over, followed by the Rebels at 9-over. UAB was fourth at 12-over, while Arkansas rounded out the top five at 13-over. The field was made up of 12 teams.

Individually, Mississippi State's Ben Wood earned medalist honors by four shots at 12-under 198 after a final-round 6-under 64. There was a two-way tie for second at 8-under (Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans and Florida State's Hank Lebioda).

Three UNLV players finished in the top 15. Senior Carl Jonson led the way for UNLV and finished in sixth place at 2-under 208 after a final-round 2-under 68, sophomore Taylor Montgomery tied for 11th at 1-over 211 after a final-round even-par 70 and freshman John Oda tied for 15th at 3-over 213 after a final-round 1-under 69.

Other Rebel scores: senior Kurt Kitayama tied for 30th at 9-over 219 after a final-round 3-over 73 and sophomore Chris Tuulik tied for 34th at 10-over 220 after a final-round 3-over 73. The tournament had a total of 60 individuals.

UNLV will be back in action Oct. 19-21, at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
