LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After going 1-1 in the 2014 Northwestern Mutual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Championship Rounds at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., last weekend (loss to Stanford, 89-60; win vs. Temple, 57-50), the Runnin' Rebels are back at home to host Albany (2-2) on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. The game time was moved to earlier in the day because of ESPNU televising the UNLV football game vs. Nevada, Reno, at 7:30 p.m. that day.
The Runnin' Rebels (3-1), who had to replace all five starters from a year ago, have played six freshmen, two sophomores and two seniors this season. Freshman guard Rashad Vaughn scored 26 points in the season opener and leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.5 ppg. Sophomore forward Christian Wood has three double-doubles this year and has averages of 12.3 ppg and a team-high 10.5 rpg, also adding 3.5 bpg. Freshman forward Goodluck Okonoboh leads the team with 4.3 bpg, while senior guard Cody Doolin leads the team with 5.8 apg and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.8.
The Runnin' Rebels have trailed at the half in each of their four games this season. They are fourth in the country in blocked shots (8.5 bpg) and 15th in field-goal percentage defense (33.9).
Saturday's game vs. the Great Danes will not be televised, however a live Mountain West Network video stream will be available for free at UNLVRebels.com with Tony Cordasco and Keith Starr calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM in Las Vegas.
